This week, our family is celebrating something pretty special.
My grandmother, Mema, turned 91.
Ninety-one years of life, experience, resilience, and love. When you really stop and think about that, it’s incredible.
We traveled to Amarillo to spend time with her. It is something we started several years ago because you just never know how much time you may have.
And that really is what this week has been about.
Slowing down a bit. Sitting together. Just being there.
One morning, we were sitting with her eating breakfast. Her favorite thing in the world is a jalapeño cheddar biscuit egg sandwich from Whataburger… and she only gets it when Dawn and I come to visit.
And in the middle of that simple moment, she said something that stuck with me.
She talked about how fast life goes by.
When you are a child, you just want things to go faster. You want to get older.
Then one day, you are older… and all you want is for time to slow down.
There is something about hearing that from someone who has lived 91 years that just hits differently.
It makes you pause.
It makes you appreciate the moment you are in a little more.
And it reminds you not to wait too long to spend time with the people who matter most.
