Breaking Money Silence

We recently spent a few days with my grandmother in Amarillo, Texas, where I was born and where most of my extended family lives. My grandmother turned 90 years old a couple of months ago. She is experiencing a number of health issues, as you might expect at her age, but I truly treasure the time spent with her. Most of our time is spent watching her favorite shows (a Yellowstone marathon if we can find it) or a movie she likes, but we always end up sharing memories of my grandfather and our days and summers spent at the lake. And of course, FaceTime with my grandbaby now.. her great-great granddaughter 😀. Five generations of amazing women still in my life. I feel truly blessed.

"None of us are perfect around money, so the goal isn’t to be perfect. It’s to be insightful and do the best you can and to learn from your mistakes."

KATHLEEN BURNS KINGSBURY

Money can feel like the last taboo, especially when it comes to retirement.

But what if opening up could completely transform your future?

In this episode, I sit down with Kathleen Burns Kingsbury, Founder of KBK Wealth Connection and author of Breaking Money Silence®, to explore how our early beliefs about money affect our entire financial life. We unpack the emotional side of retirement planning and how having the right conversations, even the uncomfortable ones, can lead to more confident and joyful retirements.

On this week's episode we discuss:

  • Kathleen’s journey from finance to counseling psychology and founding KBK Wealth Connection
  • How unconscious beliefs form our money mindset from childhood
  • Why many women feel excluded from financial decisions and how to reclaim their voice
  • The emotional side of retirement and how it differs dramatically from previous generations
  • Conversation starters and mindset shifts for clients and advisors to address financial silence
  • And more!

On our last morning together, I snapped this picture as we walked home from breakfast before my daughter and granddaughter headed back home. I’m pretty sure this isn’t how a stroller is supposed to work 😆 … but the laughter made it worth it. Fortunately, they’ll be back next month for my wife’s birthday — and I can’t wait. I shared last week that my daughter, Kaitlyn, would be joining our retirement planning team at Blake Wealth Management. That means she and our granddaughter have been with us for the last week, so she can train and prepare for her new role. She will work remotely from home near Austin, Texas. Fortunately, that also means we have both our children at home. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy being an "empty-nester", but my heart is truly full when both our children (and grandchild) are back in the...
