Clearing the Mental Clutter During Big Life Changes

Good morning, Simply Retirement Community!

Welcome to the weekly newsletter that reminds us that retirement is not the end of the road; it is the start of a new journey.

Last week, we recorded the 100th episode of The Simply Retirement Podcast… and for the first time, it wasn’t just a conversation about retirement planning.

It was a conversation about family.

My wife, Dawn, joined me — who has been part of the business for over 5 years — and in just a couple of months, we’ll be celebrating 30 years of marriage.

My daughter, Kaitlyn, and my son, Eric, who have both recently joined the firm, were part of the conversation as well. Seeing them step into this work, each in their own way, has been something I’m incredibly proud of.

This episode wasn’t about strategies or numbers.

It was about why this work matters.
It was about the people behind it.
And it was about what this has grown into — something much bigger than I ever expected.

There were a few laughs, a few moments that made me pause, and a lot of reflection on how far this journey has come.

More than anything, it was a reminder of how fortunate I am — to do the work I love, with the people I love.

Episode 100 is still a couple of weeks away, but the experience of recording it with my family was truly memorable.

You have to wake up and decide, I deserve better.

Clearing the Mental Clutter During Big Life Changes

When life feels noisy, the real issue is not always a lack of time; it is often a lack of clarity.

The biggest decisions in life rarely get solved by doing more. They get solved by cutting through the clutter, focusing on what matters most, and taking one small step at a time.

In this episode, I talk with Jill Beck, founder of Go Long, about why so many women stay stuck during major life transitions and how accountability, clarity, and small actions can help them move forward. Jill shares her own path out of high-pressure corporate life, why women often put themselves last, and how her text-based coaching helps make hard changes feel more manageable.

Key Takeaways:

  • How Jill’s health journey and corporate experience led her to help women through major transitions
  • Why fear, perfection, and helping others can keep women from facing the changes they need to make
  • How text-based accountability can make hard decisions feel more manageable
  • The value of narrowing your focus, understanding your why, and being willing to get uncomfortable
  • Why breaking a big task into smaller steps can reduce overwhelm and create momentum
  • And more!
